Ski for Steve

Back by Popular Demand! The Ski for Steve Fun Sprints, this Saturday, February 4 at Ski Martock, starting at 2:00. This event promises fun and excitement and gives skiers of all ages and abilities an equal chance to become the Fun Sprints Champion! This event will have kids racing parents, women racing men, and recreational skiers competing against some of the top skiers in N.S. - head to head. The course is only 900 metres with lots of rest between heats. Everyone will ski at least 3 times. Our last Fun Sprints event was 3 years ago, and the Finals featured men, women, kids, old guys, and Canada Games skiers competing head-to-head. The event fee is just $5 for youth Martock Nordic club members ages 8-15, and $10 for ages 16+ when you enter the promo code "ski4fun" in the MNSC Member Discount box when you register: If you don't have a Martock pass you will need to purchase a day pass for $15 (purchase on-line when you register). It doesn't matter how old you are or fast you are, but how you finish the race! This is a fun format for the whole family, young or old, male or female, recreational skier or competitive racer: 1. Everyone will ski the 900 metre mostly-flat course once in an interval start format to get a qualifying time. 2. The next round features heats of 4-6 skiers skiing on the same 900 metre course. Skiers in each heat are seeded based on qualifying times - the slowest skier in the heat will get a head start based on the difference in their qualifying time from the next slowest skier, then the 2nd slowest skier starts, and so on, with the fastest skier in the heat starting last. This sets up an exciting finish with all skiers in the heat finishing at close to the same time! The winner isn't the fastest skier in the heat, it's the skier who crosses the finish line first. 3. The top 2-3 finishers from each heat move on to the next round, and the rest move on to the "B" finals heats. Prizes will be awarded for the Top 3 in the A and B Finals, and for the fastest qualifying times in each age group. The total event with heats through to the finals will take 2-3 hours depending on how many people participate. There will be food, hot and cold drinks and many prizes. Children must be 8 years old as of Jan 1st 2017, to participate. Come out and ski with your child or friend. Come out for some fun, food and time with friends.
